There are sisters in our lives, who have inspired us to become who we are, who have helped mold us and who we have looked up to.   For the Relief Society Birthday Dinner we would like to fill the  room with remembrances of the influential women in your lives.

If you would like to decorate a table for the centerpieces that evening

please let Melanie or Shelly know (elkridge2ndrs@gmail.com).The doors will be open at 5:30 so you can come decorate.

Sisters, it is a new year with new and exciting things to come. Don't forget to check for updates in groups and activities.

This year we are focusing on all of our wonderful groups. Remember group leaders to get your information and dates in to Melanie Bott, melaniebott@gmail.com or Shelly Strand, shelly.strand@gmail.com so they can get them updated on the blog.

This year we will be focusing on the quarterly Relief Society meetings. They will be bigger and better!

Christmas Catch Up!

Don't forget about our Christmas Craft Catch up tomorrow, Thursday the 8th at 6:30pm. Come and catch up on your Christmas crafts from November, other crafts you are working on or to wrap gifts.

A Successful Christmas Crafting Day

We had a wonderful turn-out on Saturday. Many came to make the Christmas crafts, enjoy breakfast or just to mingle. It was a fun morning. A great big THANK YOU goes out to all of the sisters who participated. Thank you to the sisters who stayed a little longer to clean up. We appreciate all of the wonderful sisters in our ward who give selflessly everyday! We love you all and are happy to serve you as well.

If you have any questions about the activity and/or projects please contact Melanie or Shelly. We will be having an activity in December to complete any unfinished projects, as well as any projects anyone would like to bring and work on, wrap presents or just mingle to relax before Christmas.

Birthday Sign - $13.00

The festive Birthday Sign has ribbons that represent each month. They will house clothes pins where you can label family members names and day in each coordinating month. You will be able to choose from different colors of vinyl and scrapbook paper to create your very own festive birthday sign to display in your home or give as a gift!

The welcome sign is designed to rotate between tiles for each season.

It will come with Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer tiles.

What's For Dinner Magnet Menu Board - $26.00

This menu board is designed to help with organization as well as making difficult decision for weekly menus. Seven magnets for each day of the week will display the menus for each day of the week. You will be able to hold all of your favorite menu items to rotate through the different weeks in the Menu Items pocket, along with "surprise" or "eat out" tags to choose from. Thumbprint Family Tree - $17.00

Recycled Book Pumpkins

MATERIALS

• Old paperback books
• Sticks
• Orange ink pad
• Orange acrylic paint
• Large mixing bowl
• Exacto knife
• Hot glue & glue gun
• Sheet of paper
• Scissors
• Green felt
• Brown Cloth Stem Wire (can be found in the floral section of any craft store)

DIRECTIONS
On a blank sheet of paper, draw and cut out a pumpkin shape (keeping in mind the size of the book you will be using and that the book will need to be able to stand up, so don’t make the bottom completely rounded). Pull the front & back cover off the book. Open the book to about halfway through, and then trace the shape onto the book pages. Use an Exacto knife to cut out the pumpkin (you may have work your way through the book doing this, cutting several pages at a time).

Once your pumpkin shape is cut out, it’s time to give it some color! Decide which method you want to use (if you’re making more than one, you may want to try a different method of adding color for each one):

Rub the edges with an orange stamp pad. This is by far the quickest, easiest and least messy method, but it just gives the edges color, so a lot of white will still show through.

Dip the edges in orange paint. Water down orange acrylic paint to dilute it and put it in a large mixing bowl or other container. Test the orange color by dipping a sheet of paper in – add more water or orange paint to make it the color you like. Then, just close the book and dip the cut edges in. You can dip as little or as much as you’d like – the deeper and/or longer the book gets dipped in the paint, the further the color will soak up into the pages. If you want the book pages to be entirely orange-tinted, dip the whole book in the paint (this produces a really cute look, but it took almost 2 days to dry completely!).

Once the book pumpkins are are completely dry, it’s time to make the stems and leaves that will attach to the top. Cut out a few leaf shapes from green felt and hot glue a small length of the stem wire to the back of each. Use some more of the wire to create little curly spirals that will also stick out of the top of the pumpkin by wrapping it around a pen or pencil, then just sliding it off.

Open the book so that the first and last pages and the core of the spine are facing up. Use the hot glue gun to glue a stick (the stem), along with the base of the wire “curlies” and the leaf into the top of the spine of the book. Zig-zag hot glue all the way down the spine, then just open the book completely so the pages are all spread out.

 Once the hot glue dries, the pumpkins are done!

Ingredients

• White chocolate bark or melting chocolates
• Graham crackers
• Hershey chocolate bars
• marshmallows
• fruit roll ups
• mini chocolate chips
• orange frosting

  

Melt chocolates as directed on the package.

Break graham crackers into half, creating two squares for each graham cracker. Place chocolate on top. Cut a marshmallow in half or in threes to create the bottom layer of the melting snowman.

Place the cut marshmallow pieces on top of the chocolate squares.

Drizzle melted white chocolate over cut marshmallow, chocolate and graham cracker to make a melting effect. Then carefully place another marshmallow on top. This will be for the face. I let the chocolate cool off for a few seconds in the refrigerator before placing the normal marshmallow because it kept wanting to slide off.

After snowmen are built place them into the refrigerator to harder. This is quicker so that the marshmallows don't slide off as much.

Cut the fruit roll up in half lengthwise and measure out the length you prefer for the scarves and wrap around the bottom of the top marshmallow. To help with this part I put the fruit roll up in the freezer to harder so make it easier to handle.

I used remaining melted chocolate to help place the mini chocolate chips for the eyes and buttons. Using the orange decorating frosting I added the carrot nose.
